DAIM

Mirko Reisser, also known as DAIM, was born in Lüneburg, Germany in 1971 and studied fine-arts at in Switzerland. DAIM has become one of the most famous and sought-after graffiti artists creating graffiti murals all over the world.  DAIM is known for his abstract, three dimensional style.

We have look at DAIM's work as inspiration for our tag designs.  The overlaping, use of space, and perspective DAIM uses in his tags helps create a great composision.  I hope you can use those elements in your designs.

Tag Examples

We are sketching ideas right now for our first project, Graffiti Tag Designs.  Each student must create a personal tag that includes perspective, typography, and symbolism.  I am very proud of the ideas the seventh graders are coming up with and how they are pushing themselves to go beyond basic lettering.  Here are a very examples from our developmental workbooks.

First Drawings in DW

Overall, the first drawings in your Developmental Workbooks were outstanding.  Remember that they should take around a half hour to complete and they are graded on the rubric below.  Here is an exceptional example that I wanted to share.  The next drawing will be due September 28th.

6th Graders - Doodler's Anonymous

The 6th Grade class is starting to submit drawings for Doodler's Anonymous and WOW!  They are amazing!  I can tell there is a lot of talent in the 6th grade class and I can't wait to see more of it!

Art Reports and Drawings Due Today!

Today the first Art Reports on Robert Indiana are due along with the first drawing assignment.  The Art Reports can be done on the Internet or by using the Scholastic Art Magazines that can be signed out from my room.  The drawing can be of anything as long and will be graded based on the rubric we went over in class.

These are two beautiful drawings by students based on Robert Indiana's work.

Sketch Up

For our first project, we are going to be working on perspective.  A great tool for three dimensional drawing is Google's Sketch Up.  It is a free download that allows you to design three dimensional buildings, cities, and designs.

Every Child is an Artist

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
~Pablo Picasso

I was painting with my son Charlie this morning and it reminded me of this quote. This is my favorite quote and I strongly agree with Picasso! I hope all of my students know that they have so much potential and I am excited to see all the amazing work we can create this year!
