An Altered Reality: Middle School Photoshop Project

To teach my middle school students Photoshop, I game them two roles: You work for a non-profit agency and you need to make a campaign ad that can be displayed in New York City in Grand Central Station that sends your message. OR You work for the National Enquirer and you need to create a scandalizing cover photo for next month’s paper. Both of these roles require students to create fictional illustrations using Adobe Photoshop. Here is some of their work.

September Process Journal Assignment

The Process Journal Assignment for September is:

Role: You work for Hallmark who is looking for a new way to market animal stickers.  You are asked to create an ink drawing creating a scene around one of the stickers.  It can be realistic, animated, comical, etc. you have artistic freedom. 

Objective: You will be able to create a setting or scene that surrounds a sticker giving it meaning, value, context, or a story line using a line drawing in ink.


Procedure: Chose a sticker from your teacher (on the assignment board). Place the sticker anywhere on a blank piece of paper.  Draw around the sticker in pencil and then trace with ink when the drawing in finalized.
