Start of Clay
We are starting our clay unit. 7th grade is making pencil holders by combining pinch pots to create a hollow structure. Last week we practiced making pinch pots and joining them together to make spheres and cylinders. Today we are practicing basic hand building techniques to make details like expression of faces and accessories. These are two examples by Abby V. and Zack D.
Art Club
Art Club made coloring books and chunk crayons for the pediatric unit at the Arnot Hospital. They did a great job and I know the kids will enjoy coloring every hand drawn page!
Our next Art Club meeting will be on Thursday December 13th from 2:45 to 4. Hope to see you there!

Back to Our Candy Still Lifes
This week we are returning to drawing candy still lifes. A plate of candy is on each table. Students start by drawing four sketches in their developmental workbook of examples of compositions using a viewfinder. Once they have narrowed down what their composition will look like, the will draw the still life and shade it using a full range of values.
I am very proud of the work the students have created so far. Here is an example of two sketches by Rachel in 4B. I will have many more pictures to come.

Face Off
For Halloween, I want to share a show I found on SyFy called Face Off. This is a reality show where the contestants are presented with a challenge to create a character based on the judges criteria. They must make everything for their design; from the mask molds to the costumes and then have to dress a model and apply make-up to finish the look. The transformations that take place are amazing!
These images are from a challege where the contestants were given a children's drawing of a monster and they had to take it from a 10 year old's crayon drawing to a living monster.
The link to full episodes and a picture gallery is below.

Stop Motion Animation
Our last Art Report was on Tim Burton who is famous for his stop motion animations, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas.
This is a stop motion animation that a seventh grade student, Zach D., made at home using Lego's. It is amazing!

Mr. Tolbert's Art Room
I have been in Mr. Tolbert's Room on the third floor Friday and today administering the Pre-Tests for 8th grade art. What a beautiful space! I have to say that CFA's 330 is the most beautiful room probably in the entire district. No wonder Corning native Fredrick Carder used the space for his studio on occasion. 7th graders, no only do you have the amazing and inspiring Mr. Tolbert to look forward to next year, you also will get to create art in this wonderful space!
