Andy Goldsworthy Photos

Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist producing site-specific sculpture and land art living and working in Scotland. The materials used in Andy Goldsworthy's art is limited to materials found in nature, such as brightly-colored flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. Goldsworthy said about his work, "I think it's incredibly brave to be working with flowers and leaves and petals. I can't edit the materials I work with. My remit is to work with nature as a whole."

We took one class period and limited to just the items we could find in our courtyard created natural sculptures based on Andy Goldsworthy's work. The object of this was to force us to be creative using limited resources, think abstractly, and work in collaborative groups. Here are our results.

3 Lessons to be Learned from a Pencil

Three Lessons to be Learned from a Pencil
1) Pain always sharpens you.
2) Everything you do leaves a mark.
3) What is inside you is useful, not the outside.

Anonymous Typography

Here is a song written in stylized text by an anonymous 7th grade student.  He said that the song was not his favorite, but it told a story and he felt it needed to be put on paper.  It is hanging outside my room if you want to see the details of the drawing.

CFA Upclose

For yearbook, we have been investigating CFA traveling to all parts of this historic building including the basement and the clocktower.  We will be rotating small groups to take pictures and I know we will get some amazing photos.  This is a few from our first day exploring.

Art Room Mascot

Adyn U. made me this adorable dog and he has officially been dubbed the art room mascot! I am in awe of the detail she was able to get in such a small sculpture. The medium is also unique; cheese wax! Thanks Adyn!

Pixlr

Pixlr is an online photo editing program that has three settings depending on what you want to do. It allows you to add simple effects to enhance a photo all the way to advanced photo editing and manipulation. This is a perfect tool for a student wanting to dabble in digital design.

Here is a picture of my son that I edited in Pixlr!

Music and Art

Artists throughought history have connected music and art.  Kadinisky used jazz music as one of his primary sources of inspriation.  Here are two websites that allow you to create music with visual effects.

Tagxedo

This is a fun site that a student showed me.  You can take word clouds (Wordle) and create them in the form of images.  There are a lot of features you have control over.  For example: Do you want the words in the positive or negative space? What color scheme would you like?  Do you want empahsis on a specific word or phrase.  Enjoy :-)

Donate a Photo

Donate a Photo is an app by Johnson and Johnson that donates $1 for every photo taken. How easy is that? You take a picture with their app and chose the charity you want the donation to go to. I think this is a very cool program and had to share it!
