Tangle Wars

In seventh grade art we have started working on abstraction and creating tangles based on the elements of art.  To help us think outside of the box, we held the Tangle Wars last week. I had the students create abstract tangle designs based on a variety of themes, such as animals, camo, negative space, texture, etc.  Now, The Tangle Wars are over and we had great results! Students received ten beads for their voting.  They put a bead on the tangle that they liked best from each category.  You could not vote for yourself and you could only vote for each category once.  The voting gave the kids a time to share their artwork and get ideas from each other. Most classes had 10 different winners who could chose from candy or extra credit for their prize.  The students unanimously agreed that this was a worth while activity and we all left feeling inspired by what we saw!
